This is the 12c Washington. Both the above are desirable to own, particularly the first. The stamp on the left is without perforations and was first issued in 1851, its value can be found by clicking the numbers 10-17 on the menu to the left. The stamp on the left was replaced by the stamp on the right, which has perforations, its value can be found by clicking the numbers 31-39 on the menu to the left. The stamp to the left is often poorly cut and as such it is rare to find a stamp with four margins around the design, like the one above. Those stamps which do have four margins sell at the upper range of the prices quoted. The stamp as reprinted in 1875 and is rare. This reprinted stamp is on hard white paper. |
