The prices of investment grade stamps will always rise. If the stock market collapses or the housing bubble bursts, stamps, like gold, are a haven for those who wish to protect their investments. Stamps should only be considered a small part of your investment portfolio, they do bring diversity and in our
considered opinion, a more stable growth curve.
Working with an Investment Dealer
There are only a few hundred collectors who have the expertise to accurately grade stamps and advise on investment potential. There are only a handful of dealers who can offer this service. I will classify these dealers as investment dealers. When working with an investment dealer these are the points that you should consider
- Investment dealers rely on their reputation first and foremost. They have gained their reputation through thier knowledge and respect from their peers.
- An investment dealer is usualy selective about the clients he takes on. Considerations are how much you wish to invest, your commitment and what kind of portfolio you are looking for (he or she will not take a client in an area where their expertise is limited).
- An investment dealer will be able to advise on your portfolio based on the amount of investment, the rate of rotation and the intended length of keeping the portfolio
- An investment dealer will have knowledge of, and be able to advise on estate planning
- Almost all stamps are purchased with long term ownership in mind.
- Those that leave a cash reserve with the dealer usualy benefit most. The very best investment stamps are hard to find and are quickly sold, having a cash reserve will allow the dealer to take hold of the best opportunities on your behalf.
- Dealers do charge a commission, if you are lucky enough to be able to work with one of them then bear in mind you are working with the best of the best and they do not make a profit unless you do.
- Dont be frightened by price. You may see stamps sell for tens of thousands, but their are opportunities in every kind of stamp.
We are confident that you will both enjoy and be rewarded in your experience with investment dealers, they are a friendly lot.
