Advertising Covers 1880's

For the first time we see expositions advertising on cards. By the
end of the century these became quite elaborate creations. Here
New Orleans was not content to show only the one building
the whole show had to be on the card. Leaving little room
for the address.

Surrounding the stamp with and advert became very common in the
1880's, by the end of the decade the fashion had died out.
Restraint was becoming unknown. Rather like the car designs of the
1950's we see more and more excess.
The background cover was almost extinct by now. This publisher
produced one of the finest.
