The Story Behind the Stamp

Image

The stamp features 'Discobolus', or discus thrower, by 5th century Greek sculptor Myron, This was also the symbol used by the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics.

The 5¢ value was created as it was assumed that the foreign athletes would require a stamp at the 5¢ 1oz foreign mail standard rate.
