Joint Lines

Image

An example of a joint line of #597. The word 'line' in 'joint line' refers to the line down the middle of the perforations in the middle of a pair stamps. This only occurs when two strips of 17 stamps join. They sell for double the value of pairs without this line.

Spliced coils

Image

An example of a splice of #597. This is where two rolls of coils have been joined together by glue at the bureau printing facility. Strips such as the one shown above sell for between $15 and $20. This occurs once every 1000 stamps.

Precancels

Image

Due to the large amount of existing stock of the previous issue of the 1¢ Franklin the precancel of #597 was not issued until January 7th, 1924
