The design inspiration

Image
Image

The Federal Building was the iconic face of the Chicago 1933 Worlds Fair, also known at the Century of Progress Exposition. Almost all the buildings were in the art deco style and painted in rainbow colors, in contrast to the previous Chicago Worlds Fair of 1893 when the buildings were all white and neo-classical. The were plans to have a 5¢ value but due to the pressure of work that came with a change of administration this issue was pared down to the 1¢ and 3¢ values.
