The Inspiration for the Design

Image

Using a photograph of the Colorado River canyon an artist had sketched in what the dam would appear like. This composite photo was used as the vignette for the stamp, as at the time of the stamps design the dam was not finished. However by the time of the stamps design the dam's name was changed to the Hoover Dam, it is strange that the original name was used.
